Hey guys, i know this is probably one of the most stupid questions youve seen but i just got a new site and was wondering how i would get it to the top of google, im presuming putting keywords in the meta or something like that, im very new to this whole web design thing so dont be harsh on me

2. well formed html with css
3. keywords in the content and titles and title attributes (valid only)
4. inbound, relevant, topical links
5. regularly updated, targeted and focused content

ok ive got the product, what do you mean the html with css ? keywords relating to the site ive done, the links and stuff ?? and its going to be always updated with focused content

I mean that with well formed HTML and the styling/visual design of the page in the CSS, it is easier for search engines to index your content. Plus it makes your users happier which means they will be more likely to link to you and be happy with you, and more links means Google is happier.

Well my class has to make there own "wannabe" business and get it online and at the end of the term it gets voted between the techs, but its going to be a online signups/referalls website. sounds easy....i think not

You really need to do some thinking as to what you think people will search for in order to find your site, then you have to make sure that your site is optimised for those terms. Is your site complete now?
