Hi guys,
G announced that 1.65 billion dollar stock deal to buy video-sharing website YouTube.
What you think that does G become Microsoft of the internet ?

We all think "software" when Google is mentioned, but before the takeover, Google apparently had something like 1.8 million servers. Presumably they will need a few more to keep Youtube going. That hardware figure alone must make them vital players in the internet business, besides all the programmes and maps and so on they keep trotting out

Google sometimes seems to want to be Microsoft. Although Google supports FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software), which sets it apart from Microsoft. They created the 'Summer of Code', and host many FLOSS projects. There is also speculation that Google uses a modified Ubuntu for their desktops.

Quite why anyone would want to purchase Youtube mystifies me, they're going to win an award soon: 'Most Sued Company in US Corporate History' (yes, I made that up). Now they're owned by a company with some money, anyone with copyrighted material on that site is going to be phoning their lawyer. Smiling

Whatever it may be but one thing is sure that Google is Google and I also accept the fact that it can never be Microsoft, both are totally different/unique.

i am sure that G's legal eagles mustve devised some strategy to counter the copyright issues involved with youtube before this purchase. Maybe they'd do a profit-sharing deal of some sort or something similar with major media organizations.
