I don't think it really matters much. Both terms will be picked up in the search engine for SEO. You need to consider what people will most likely to remember. For a long named site it is sometimes easier to see if the words are hyphenated.
As Phil said: it doesn't really matter for most things. mysite.com may be easier for people to remember however. So if you have the choice: get mysite.com.
I would say a domain with hyphen is too long anyways (most of the time). If you have to put hyphens in the name then it really isnt the best domain name you can get.
My sites use no hyphens in them...either way...a shorter domain is usually better because they are harder to come by, if you can get one then it will be good in the longrun.

For branding and for easy recall on returning visitors, go with the one without the hyphen.

Agree. Anytime I EXPECT visitors to come back, I don't put a hyphen in it. The SEO advantage is very small anyways.
