Hello.............
My website has a dot com extension. I have been told that if one owns "all" the commonly used extensions (for your web site name), it will definitely have a positive impact; yeilding improved positions/visibility when people use search Engines (to find relevant items in your area).
The relevant extensions I'm referring to are: .net .biz .info .org and .us
I would appreciate anyone's input on this.
Thanks!

do you mean to say that you should have all the eextensions like candylandcrafts.com, candylandcrafts.biz, candylandcrafts.org, candylandcrafts.info ...?
i dont think it may be useful, if you have different domains having the same content, they may be penalysed.

Hi thanks for comments. On, I simply "own" the other extensions. The only "content" is at my .com web site.
The benefit of owning the other extensions, is that no one else can use them, potentially setting up a competitive web site, also owning them makes sure that your "name recognition" is strong/undiluted. Anyone who types in the name of my web site with any extension (in the list) is automatically redirected to the .com
These benefits are good ...many web site owners do it. But I was told I'd get another plus because the search engines would (somehow) give me a better position on average. Frankly I don't believe that, but wasn't sure so I thought I'd see what others had to say.
Thanks! Have a great day.

I don't think registering all other .net .biz .info .org and .us apart from the .com is going to help in giving your site a better position in SEs. It will just protect your name, nothing else. Even that is not necessary IMO unless your name is Trademarked.
