I tried to switch servers from Windows to Linux (didn't go through with the process and switched back before it completed) where the site went down for a day when I activated the change. I was on page 3 for my main keyword phrase and now I'm nowhere to be seen? Any ideas or explanations? Confused

I think you'll just have to wait for Googlebot to return and see all is ok.

But who is to say 'your' keywords are the ones people would look for?

I did an experiment years ago, the site was on belly button fluff (hey I needed a topic), site was ranked ... but my main keywords were 'belly button fluff', I thought those words would be strong enough, but what about navel lint?

Many many things can have several identifiers.
cell phone = mobile phone = mob ph = yuppie ph
smoke = cig = fag = butt = nicotine inhaler
pic = picture = image = photo
soda = fizzy drink = soft drink = brand name
internet = www = web

those are just some off the top of my head

well what would you imagine would be the main keyword phrase for searching for a Freelance Cartoonist/Illustrator in the UK?Confused

In typing in my keyword phrase, I'm 1st in MSN and 10th in Yahoo, well last time I checked and had managed to push up to page 3 in Google from page 30 odd until the site went down of course.

If you were looking to hire a cartoonist or illustrator, what do you think you would you type?

I won't tell you yet what my keyword phrase is as it would be interesting to see what you say.

Freelance Cartoonist/Illustrator

lets see, freelance wouldn't be a keyword as people dont care if you freelance, work for mum and dad or even the pope.

Cartoonist/Illustrator can be two things, so will seperate them or this.

Cartoonist = Cartoonist, cartoon, cartoon drawer, comic, animator, hand drawn
Illustrator = Illustrator, stretcher, print copy, print media, free hand

Is early, just having first coffee of the morning but off the top of my head I'd say I'd search for 'cartoon animator', then again it also depends on what the thing was that i wanted. Say I wanted some cartoon icons made, I would search for freehand icons, or icon clip art ... I'm not going to look at your site to see what your content suggests, although that would make it very easy.
Say you sell templates, search words would be freehand template

don't nessecerily think of your title as being your main keyword. a keyword that describes what you are used for can be even more effective sometimes. i.e. instead of "freelance cartoonist" being your only keyword also describe your services - "design posters" "logo designer" "uk caractature"

Google made a pretty major change in its algo recently and a fair number of sites have been dumped. It's possible that your site is one of them.
