Yes, those are mostly low quality tetchniques. Lots of people will come along and recommend them, but it's really not going to get you very far. Social bookmarking is useful *if* you do it right. You can't just post random pages from your site and expect to get traffic. You have to have good content that people really want to link to.

Writing article for other sites is similar - it could work well if you do it correctly. Don't write poor quality content and submit to article directories - those are low quality links. Instead, identify high quality websites and blogs on your topic and see if they accept contributions.

Other than that the best techniques really depend on what your site is about. The best way to get links varies depending on your topic. Think about where you would be able to get links and what would motivate the other site to link to you.

Megan strikes again! I am very impressed with your knowledge when it comes to SEO. I do believe those tips are of great help to anyone.

I think a mix of low and high does the trick too though. A lot of lower quality links add up to 1 higher quality I am told.

If you expect traffic, the first thing you have to bear in mind is the target audience - what would these people expect of your blog? how can you reach them? If you ask yourself these question, the question of the preferred link-building techniques is way more transparent.
