When you submit to a directory and your link appears on the directory, you could go to google.com and submit the url where the link back to your site is. Wouldn't that make google find your link?
Just an idea, having tried it out yet.

If the directory has PR then G will have already found the page and will recrawl it, so it's a pointless exercises really unless there is no PR but then would you really be submitting it to a non-PR page?

yeah, that's an old trick. The other is to link to the page that links to you from your page..?
Link to all pages that link to you! That way the googlebot can easily find them when crawling your site. Doesn't appear to do this as much anymore.

I think linking back is a good idea, but if you try to submit the directory again to google (or few times if it has already been submited) it may get banned and this wouldn't do good to anyone, so be careful

it's not so easy to get a site banned, if it would be so, then you could easily eliminate your competition by doing mass submit on google

It dosen't matters if you submit that page or not. Google will index it if it has good ranking by default when that site's number comes in que, otherwise it will be in regular que.
