I have a customer who wants a simple trade site.

His company name is not very descriptive of what he does as it is his own name so I have decided to buy a keyword based domain name instead for search engine purposes. I am also going to buy his company name domain name for those who may want to search by that.

Is it best to upload the site to both locations so there are effectively 2 sites on the net both the same with different names or upload it to one and redirect from the other name? Which way will keep both indexed in google well when the relevant keywords ate typed?

Thanks

No. Put a redirect on the one site to point to the other. Cloning is bad.

Google hates redirects also does it not?

What have people here done when they have 2 domain names for the same website, but would like both indexed by google under the keywords in each name?

Put the site on space for the keyword domain, then forward all the other domains to it and make sure that any links are pointed to the keyword domain for SEO.

Unless you are going to create two completely different sites with unique content you can't get both domains into Google, they will see it as duplicate content and possible ban both domains!

Just make sure you use a 301 redirect and you will be fine.

re-directs are also not ideal, though cloning is worse. why not put the second url to a doorway page on a subdomian like i.e. "plumbing.regpluming.org" that leads back to the main site. just don't expect the doorway page to rank well, and make sure it is colour coded etc wth the main site.

Google will penalize you if you clone your website.

definitely not having 2 copies of one site... do a redirect from one domain and make the other domain the main content site.
