Help! My name is Danielle. I am trying to start a small part time business. I have a site created that works but it doesn't exist anywhere
My site is aspirecareerservices.ca. I have registered it with Google, Yahoo, etc... and I still don't exist on the internet. It has been over a month since I tried this and STILL nothing.
I have just started my own little business and am getting NO work at all as I don't exist on the internet.
ANY help you could provide me regarding getting my website picked up by search engines (without spending a lot of $ lol) would be MUCH appreciated!

Hi there Danielle, welcome to TWF.
It does take some time for a business to pick up on the internet. Depending on what it is you're "selling" it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few months, maybe even a few years.
What you may want to start doing is getting work by word of mouth. When business starts to pick up that way, more people should be visiting your site etc.
Try building up a small portfolio/showcase for your site as well

My sites have taken over 3 months to finally appear on Google. I was getting worried too. Patience is key. Getting links is another good thing, to your website that is.

Without backlinks it is unlikely any site will stay in the main google index, or get deeply crawled by the spiders. Links also count massively in the ranking algorithms.

What do you mean by ;lots of links in yahoo'? There is no way to accurately check backlinks in Google as they have deliberately broken the link: command for some time now. Just because they are not displaying them though does not mean the links do not get counted by Google.

That's right, if you expect to get traffic from search engines you need to optimize your website for your specific keywords and get links from other websites.
I'd recommend you to read a few SEO (Search Engine Optimization) related articles as there are many other things that should be considered when optimizing a website for search engines.
This will get you on the road http://www.mediacollege.com/internet/search-engines/seo/basics.html
After you read that search for other SEO tutorials and read them.

Don’t worry much about it as sooner or later the site will appear and it will get working. Concentrate on active link building which should be quality ones as it is one of the main aspect in getting the site full on. Your site is richer than others if it has more quality backlinks than the other sites and Google loves these rich sites. Utilize your time in other SEO techniques which will help your site get on the top search results once it is indexed.

For a site like this you're going to need to do some serious keyword research. This is a very competitive field so you will need to figure out what keywords will work for you. The home page in particular needs to have more good keywords on it. At the same time, this will give the user a clear idea of what you offer. Also work on optimizing the title tag (very important!) and on-page text including headers and links.
I recommend SEOmoz's beginner's guide to SEO. This should help you out a lot:

Hey, you're from the Guelph!! I'm from Kitchener!
:D You could try to focus on the local area as a way to market your site. The whole internet is so saturated with career help. If you concentrate your efforts on the local area, even as wide as Toronto and S-W Ontario you could have a better chance. Offline marketing might be worthwhile too.

Here's an article on keyword research that might be helpful:

Another thing I forgot to mention is that you should get your site into Google Webmaster Tools and submit a sitemap there. That's what google would tell you to do if you asked them this question. Also read the google webmaster guidelines:
