Obviously this was in the pipeline anyway but can't help thinking that the current Google update mess will tip the balance in favour of them definitely giving Google the boot in favour of MSN. Let's hope so anyway!

Only problem with MSN is their bot, isn't well behaved and will often block itself on bot traps

I don't think the majority of aol users will even notice. Most AOL users dont know theirs another world outside AOL lol...

AOL KEYWORD: <- lol... not seen this advertised for a while now.

All very true but their results are so much more relevant than Google at present!

The look of the AOL search has changed (big "MSN" looking icons), but it is still powered by G as of yet. Maybe this is the start of the switch.

If AOL does make the switch, it's possible that this will cause a decent-sized percentage shift in MSN searches vs. Google searches. Let's face it, many online businesses cater to the type of people who use AOL. Could this be the start of a shift away from Google?

Although though I'm no huge Microsoft fan, anything that makes a marketplace more competitive is a good thing, in my opinion. Well, almost anything. But even though I am a Google fan, AOL switching to MSN Search would hopefully increase innovation in both companies.

Bighard? I've never heard of that. What are you talking about? A quick search didn't turn anything up but porn sites.

I think the percentage of searches lost by G will be minimal.

Really? I would imagine that most people who use AOL are the type of people that will just use whatever tools AOL shows them by default. For search, that would be the AOL search page. And at last count, AOL had over 40 million users. Even if you say only half of those users are clueless and use the default AOL browser (and from the year I worked at AOL tech support, I would say it's much, much more than half), that's still 20 million people who will instantly be switching from Google to MSN Search without batting an eye, or even knowing.

Who cares about searches. Microsoft + AOL is bad news any way you look at it.

The funny thing is though. I was at the Microsoft conference yesterday and the 2 guys on stage where working on a demo and created something that one of them called "A MSN search bar" and after a pause he said to the other "Don’t say the 'G' word". I though that was very funny Smiling

I think it's best if aol go msn.

I would like google, msn and yahoo to have equal amounts of the search traffic so that us webmasters aren't overdependant on one search engine.

each search engine has its advantages and disadvantages and I do like google!

I'll second that, although I dislike all of those companies. MSN because they're evil and Google because of the potential for evil, suppose best case scenario is that they all have roughly equal market share and Steve Ballmer doesn't get to "f**king bury" anyone. Roll eyes
