Greetings:
I've found the search for links to be very frustrating. I have spent many hours searching for appropriate sites to request reciprocal links from, and have found that at least 80% never get back to me. Some require that you link to their site before they consider your request...even these frequently never respond.
I have a site (and keywords) that when searched for yields hundreds or thousands of sites and realize that I need to get a LOT of links. But hours and hours of work has yielded about a half dozen links. This is not working. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Sierra Nomad

Unfortunately you just have to keep going! You will find it does get easier once your site gets higher PR.
What's the URL of your site and I'll see if I can come up with some suggestions.....

when your asking for a link always be very polite. write propely and dont use chat room speak please instead of plz. it helps if you put their link on your site first so they can see your willing to coparate. try and be funny dont make it to serious if you entertain them they might remember you but dont make a big joke out of it.
just be yourself and if the dont want you dont keep asking that could wreck any further relations. always ask for a reply.

Also go to searchbliss' site to access a baclink tool so youll find some pages that put your site in theirs without a reciprocal link...

Your site really needs some work on it to get it SE friendly!
First of all page4.html is of no use, name your pages with the keywords relevant to the content of the page. Also I notice that on the 'Inside the Booklet' page you have spaces in the page name, sort this out and use - not _ when naming pages.
Make good use of the title tag, get your main keywords in and have a different title for each page, eg. "Yosemite Trail Guide DVD Buy Online". Should contain about 6-8 words.
I would also shorten your first page and put some of the content onto another page.
The navigation on the left is images, put them as text links at the bottom as well.
Personally I split a site into as many pages as possible so that you can get more keywords in and SEs like Google like big sites. So for example your maps & prints pages could be split so that the first page has an list of the maps/prints available with a very brief overview and then people can click for larger images, more description, etc and the SEs have more to crawl and another set of keywords to hopefully rank you for.
If you have a sucessful links campaigne you could find that you will need to split your links/resources page as you don't really want more than 50 links on a page. I would personally create a links directory now, so that by the time you need to start splitting it down the ineer pages will have PR and people aren't going to moan!
Don't narrow your field for links too much, you can get links from totally unrelated sites as well, it's the PR that counts, although related links are great if you can get them. Remember links pages are really there nowadays for the SEs not human visitors
Also search for directories to list you site with, local area ones, travel related, online shopping, that kind of thing. It takes time and patience to build links!
Good luck

To be competitive for keyword phrases such as Yosemite prints, DVDs and maps you need a PR4. That's not that hard, but then you are in a niche market. Having checked these phrases, not many people search for this sort of thing...
Looking on Google i saw 3 Yosemite related forums (one you link to). You should be on ALL of these forums talking about your site. By talking about a similar subject matter and dropping your link in there will boost your rankings and of course you will be talking to people who are most likely to buy!
As above, whats with the massively long first page? Split them up!

One way to get links is to first join forums that relate to the topic of your site. Post daily and get to know people. Once you know some people there who have their own sites, then request links from them.
I know I'm always much more likely to respond if I actually know the person.

Thank you.
All this technology is new to me (not just search engine challenges, etc). 1 1/2 years ago when I decided to make my DVD I didn't even have a DVD player (or a computer, for that matter).
Now that I've finished the DVD and deep into marketing it I've finally got a little time to try to make my site have more of a web presence. Could never have gotten to the point I am now if it wasn't for the help I've received from people on various forums. I geuss I typed the last two sentences in effort to convey what I said in the first two words "thank you".
Webmistress: I'm working on the changes. Have run into some glitches, and will let you know when I've got them done.

Still working on making the needed changes. I've divided up my main page, renamed the pages and added more of my keywords into the text. Having a problem with the limitations of my site's web building tools re: showing a small (clickable) image, etc. As I said, still working on it.
In the meantime, any comments on the link building program Arelis (advertised here)?

I use it, and it does the job. I dont know any other tools though, so I've got no comparison.
I find it very helpful, needless to say it automates anything a link digger should need.
I usually use "find links my competitors link to" thingie, specially if my competitors have high page rank, and the "find contact details" with which you feed a URL to get possible contact information, where sometimes it's not to be found on the site.
Good luck.
