I am really new to SEO and need some help. I have been looking at SE submission sites and am getting a bit confused with them. Could someone please help me?

Thank you

Do Google, MSN, and yahoo (but you need yahoo e-mail), also DMOZ; don't expect to get listed there for 6 month though. Look around for directories that match your sites content, submit to them, that's about it. Smiling

Google, MSN just want your URL, yahoo will ask for your e-mail, home add, and tele. Other directories sometimes want your keywords, and site description. It's not hard just connect the dots.

The best search engine submission site is probably addme.com. You should know that submitting to search engines is not the best way to get your site indexed. If you have a friend with another site that is indexed by Google, ask him or her to put a text link to your site on their site.

You shouldn't have to submit to engines, they should find you. And for them to do that, they need links from other sites pointing to your site. Smiling

Letting search engines find you is a gallant idea. Good back-links are very important, but getting your site out there is first, and of primary importance. It won’t kill you, or take a big chunk from your life to submit to the engines, and will get you listed faster. Good back-links are important to page rank, but I don’t want to wait for the engines to find me, I find them first.

The most important things for good SEO are clean code, good site content, and keywords in your sites title tags. Also important is a good concise site description, you are not writing it for your visitors, you are writing it for a spider. So it does not have to read like a story, but more like a book report your teacher ask you to make in 25 words or less.

Most important not to have, are doorway pages, flash intro-pages, things that go flip-flop, or glow in the dark on your website. Nasty background music, hidden keywords, or bad complicated navigation schemes.

One of the best ways to get traffic started, and get noticed, is to place your sites URL in your signature right here. And any other forum you visit, if they allow it. If you have a friend with a website fine, but if not! do a search for directories that list sites with your subject matter, and submit there. There is no magic forumla, or easy road to getting a site well listed, it just boils down to lots of hard work. Smiling

Don't bother about submitting your site to SEs. Let the SEs find your site through your inbound links. Just concentrate on getting inbound links to your site.

Basically all you need to do is submit your site to google and msn for free and start getting inbound links for other sites.
Submiting to 100+ search engines is a waste of time and money.

I like announce.com too for their clean service. But frankly, haven't got any results from any other SE except the big 3.
