Where I'm at:

I have had my site up and running for just over a month. It is a site that reviews matchmaking and friend finder sites. It started with a PR of 0 (as they all do), and in the last 15 minutes or so my PR has been updated to a PR of 4. I'm happy - as you can imagine!

It is currently featured in UK WebUser magazine (issue 107, page 16), and I have written a couple of articles and put some links back to the site into them. I have also answered some related questions at Answerbag.com, and directed traffic using them.

I've also go a forum which is pretty much empty (I think I put it up way too soon), and I have a list of 10 email addresses in my subscribed newsletter. I'm getting between 10-20 unique hits per day - a low number, but it is a new site! Ah - a final point - in my 5 day report (newsletter) at the end, I menation that if people like the site and the imfo, that they may like to consider posting a review of my site on Alexa. So far I've had one review, which was positive, and my Alexa rank has gone from about 5.5m down to 1.4m, which although still high doesn't really bother me, as I don't think the Alexa rank counts for much anyway.

What now?

So my question now is, where do I go from here? Should I scrap the forum, or leave it running in the hope it picks up? How can I generate more hits? How can I make sure that in the next Google update my PR goes up and not down?

I really hope that someone can help me with any or all of these questions.

Cheers,

Andrew

First of all your site is good. About the forum I can say some things. First of all if I haven't read this post, I wouldn't find the forum in your webpage. I think you should make a button or something more visible as a link to it.

The link to the forum in the Q&A page is javascript which means that search engines will not get to it. Another thing about the forum is that you must post as many posts as you can, because people avoid writing to empty posts.

To generate more traffic, maybe you should try link exchange programs, but anyways you must submit your site to directories. I think this is a great way to gain more traffic, and also increase your rankings in search engines.

Good Morning, heartsaffection

You are very eager like every webmaster trying to build the popularity of their website. My advice is continue what you are doing. The process is slow but with enough persistence you should see good results. Just remember not to lose enthusiasm in what you’re doing.

Keep your forums if you like them. If you're interested in the forums others will be too. You just have to draw them into your forums. Try pay-per-click advertising directly to the forum this could boost your memberships.

James
