As we run a couple of directories we rely on people submitting sites to them and we get loads! We list them in alphabetical order in categories but give the option of an featured listing for a reciprocal link or a fee. It's quite amazing that so many people opt to pay rather than put a 'small' banner on their site! We have also just started selling advertising space now that traffic is high and are getting some interest but it's early days for that yet.
