As has been mentioned, you should really search the forum. There have been quite a number of posts relating to this already.

95% of what people do and suggest you do is arguably pointless. Submitting to directories, forum posting and forum signatures etc etc "possibly" helps you move from no-one finding or knowing about your site AT ALL to perhaps a handful of visitors.

But the time taken to do all this for a few visitors means it's a waste of your time that could be spent improving the site and content you offer people so when they do find you, they come back or link to you on their site.

It also really depends on what the site is. If it's the ones in your signature, then you have a HUGE amount of competition with the millions of other sites discussing and relating to web hosting (and your other articles too).

You should also make sure you are accurate in your "advertisements".
In your signature you have a link stating "low cost web hosting". This is misleading as I presumed, as will most other people, I am going to be offered some web hosting.
Besides, the other link which goes to the same article describes where I'll be taken more accurately. Why have both links to the same place anyway? The keyword potential is 0, a complete waste of your time making and this site's server having to parse it.

Good content and plenty of other quality sites linking to yours. This is what you need.

Your sig link article for web hosting should be updated to help people a bit more.
If you write something a little different and better than the masses of other sites, then you have a reason for people to link to your site and visit it regularly to learn other great things.
Most of it is common knowledge, or found in many other sites and blogs, even the information provided by the hosting sites people have already visited list all the info you have provided, so the article doesn't really tell them anything more than what they already know.

So rather than simply explain WHAT data storage is, or an IP address etc, explain what site's require in terms of a real world examples.

I.E. "But don't worry too much about data storage as most sites don't require more than a GB or two."
"Although a dedicated IP is better, many sites use shared hosting and manage perfectly well. It's also the cheaper option and as long as the site doesn't overuse each IP it will be fine. Go dedicated when you need to because of...etc"

You actually make it sounds like data storage is a problem and people should enquire first. All things should be considered, but data storage is for nothing these days, and even the cheapest hosting packages provide more than enough for most website requirements.
This is helpful to people, whereas listing what they have already been informed by the hosting site's options they are trying to learn about isn't helpful.

You have this in your 'Control Panel' description - "The big question is, is it user friendly?"
I don't know, I hoped you were going to tell me. I wont know until I go with a hosting plan and use it, then it's too late.
I don't know what the choices are, the differences between them all!
What different control panels are there? Why is Plesk better than Cpanel? Which do I want? In real life scenarios, is one better than the other? Does the hosting use a hybrid one, lesser known one, no one knows about ..?
I need you to tell me as this is why I'm reading your site article ... "Advice"!

These are just examples. I'm not particularly pulling apart your articles, but with millions of blogs, and websites and forums all with the same info, you have to come up with something different. Something better than the other 500,000 sites with info about web hosting.

Then people will link to you, come back and read more, then you become popular and Google and alike will recognise this.

Forum posts and sig links and the other mind numbing time wasting options are ok for the first 2 weeks of release. After that, those become completely exhausted and wont get you any further, no matter how many forums you post on with a sig link.

Signature links on this forum are NO-follow! - This means spam is futile!

You should start your website promotion efforts by listing your site at the most popular Internet directories. Because they can send you substantial amounts of traffic and affect your ranking in various search engines, it is wise to make sure that your site is present in all of the major directories before doing anything else.

This really is an over done question. The funny thing about it is that even with so many answers and yet so many people saying those answers are pointless you get lost. I am still learning myself (and always will be). So far I submit to directories (very much time involved in that). I also use forum posts (which has helped the most in my case I think). On top of that I have found ways of getting links on high pr pages. It takes many ways to improve your off page seo.

I think of it as a machine gun. There is no silver bullet, only a spray of bullets that you hope will hit something.

Right, which is why you really have to pay attention to whose advice you are listening to. Does this person know what they're talking about? Or are they just repeating the same blather everyone else posts? And use a bit of common sense - would Google want to count this as a quality editorial link?

Most people are using the same ways as you are using, such as Directory Submission, Article Submission, Social Bookmarking, Forum submission etc. But the most important aspect you should pay attention to is the quality of the resources.

Social networking sites bring traffic to my website. Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace are my foundations of traffic by which I have a lot of friends and groups. There are lots of networking sites but this three sites are the best.

Now there are a lot of ways to promote our website. Search engine optimization techniques are most important methods in bringing traffic to the site. In my opinion blog, article submission, social bookmarking are the best ways to promote your website.

I'll talk about the latest method which is profile links. What you do is find web 2.0 sites and add your link to the profile page. Then ping them all to make sure they get indexed. Boom, Increase in backlinks and SERP.

I use all the methods mentioned above. Directories and mainly article marketing. I foiund that unless your article makes it to first page of google ( very time consuming unless you get lucky and get listed up there right away) traffic only lasts for a short period of time. I have branched off into twitter and I find that, with a little bit of prep work, the results have been quite promising.
