Yes, link farming is not recommended by search engine. It may result to the site will NOT be indexed in search engine. You may share your URL with your friends and link both sites together.

I never done the link framing, but one reply on this says it is recommended by search engine. Whereas one says it will boost the link popularity but i am not sure it will help in improving the ranking or not. Surly it will increase the backlinks or link popularity...

As far as I concern with SEO. Link farm is called as Black hat techniques. I would not like to get back links from any of the black hat techniques. In place of Link farming you may get back links from Forum submission as well as Article Submission.

what is white hat SEO? Link Exchange is when you talk to another person and "exchange" links on each others sites to help you both. It is an interesting tactic that I have never tried.

Generally we should not use Link Farming because Link Farming is a form of spam or spam indexing. In link farming, a group of sites link to each other in huge number to increase count of backlinks to get high PR and rank in SERP.

It is not a good strategy for seo because if google caught you than you definitely penalized by google. Because in the link farming you create a group of site and interchange the link.
