I have seen that submission to social bookmarking websites increases traffic to a great extent. Though only for short period, we can get back links from some websites with higher PR. Has anyone tried this way?

Hi Franke,

I split this off into its own thread because it's not about forum posting.

I've had a little bit of experience with social bookmarking. Last year I did submit a few things to digg just to try and get some more eyes on it. Didn't work, mainly because I didn't have many friends there. I know a lot of people will ask their friends to digg their content. In order to succeed there and on most of ther social networking sites you either have to have really good content that works on its own, or a lot of friends who can help you out.

We have got some decent traffic to our sites through StumbleUpon. We didn't seed anything there ourselves - some of our visitors did it. That's another one where you need other people to help you out - the more things are thumbed up or submitted the more people will see them. Again, you need to have good content.

The only other network I've used regularly is ma.gnolia but I haven't submitted any of my own content yet because I'm wary of being seen as a spammer. Other people do though. It's a good one because there are groups for different topic areas - you don't need to make friends, just join the group and you're exposed to a bunch of people with the same interests. You can then submit your articles to the group.

The other thing you can do is invite your visitors to vote for your sites on social networking sites by putting up little links that go directly to the social bookmarking site. Some people find these to be annoying though.

It is true that you can get good linkbacks from other sites if you do well on the social bookmarking sites. A lot of bloggers watch them for material for their own sites. But, again, you need to have good content in order for that to happen.

See what I'm saying? It all hinges on good content, and paritcularly content that's attractive to the networks you're targetting. Watch them to see what types of content becomes popular.

Although social bookmarking can send thousands of free traffic to your websites but this traffic does not have a significant and remarkable increase in your sales. because there is a significant differance b/w search engine and social bookmarking driven traffic ,it depends upon the users of search engines and social bookmarking websites.
Search engine users are mostly ordinary internet users who look for some specific thing to buy or find the answer of their questions or some solutions for their problems but social bookmarking users are mainly bloggers and internet marketers who don’t want to buy anything nor find any answer and solution. So they do not order anything .

I would use a more stable form of traffic such as purchasing links. Social Bookmarking might give you a quick boost if it works but as someone said above most of the time you get little to nothing in return

I've use Netscape (PR9) which now is Propeller I believe to submit a story and works great. Like sophia says, Digg and others are good.

OnlyWire.com is a good bookmarking tool to submit to many at the same time, the only downside is signing up first one by one before you use it. But I get the traffic to my Squidoo lenses this way.

Actually, traffic is not based on how high the PR is, but it is based how high the traffic and the landing page of the site.

i agree with jenny. traffic is calculated based on how many unique visitors, page loads and returning visitors land to your page it doesn't have any connection with Page Rank.

social bookmarking is great, the trick is to not only have A LOT of friends but to have them be of quality as well, the heavy users, you want to friend the heavy users, they usually take friend requests, go to digg, look for the stories that have th emost diggs, friend those people, find webtickle, he is a professional digg user and has a social media business

Social Bookmarking really helps in terms of traffic. But I want to have a good position in the SERP, and needs traffics coming from google.

Hi, yes I am recently submitting my website in social bookmarking sites. I have seen the increasing of my visitor traffic on my website. But I want to ask one question to every one is these social bookmarking sites really helps divert traffic on different language websites.
