What is the best way to promote my site Australian Catholic University except directory submission and reciprocal link building? Can some one help me?

Persoanlly I'd stay away from reciprocal link building, these are easy for the search engines to spot and they may not include these. Go for 1 way links, or 3 way links if you ahve another site.

Maybe offer somethign else in return for a link, I see a lot of people creating graphics for links or maybe write some content.

But caffinephil, for such big sites like Australian Catholic University do 1 way 3 way link building is really helpful... I don't link so. I think social book marking, getting links from blog, getting links through article can help in Promoting. What do you suggest?

Yes I agree with caffinephil. But I also prefer Directory submission. And do concentrate on Title tag. It will be very helpful in seo.

What do you guys think about those SEO programs like SEO elite and WebCEO?

If your website is relatively new, you can consider PPC programs like Google AdWords because SEO practices need time to flourish. For SEO, links can play important roles.

Create an affiliate program, and start off with a hefty commission at first. You should be on every religion chatroom and forum you can find, and create links until you cannot type any more. Another thing you can try is to contact churches in your area, maybe give a few free "lessons" You have to work on getting your name out, and one of the best ways to do this is comminity relations. Create some Youtube and other video sharing site videos and offer free lessons (make sure to plug your site) One of the first things I tell my clients is to make sure you plug your name anywhere and everywhere you can, by the way, where is your domain name in your forum signature?

General aspect of promoting a site - participate in relevant forums and blogs, social bookmarking, etc. Build more targeted backlink for more targeted traffic. Keep in mind that these links could also help you in SEO. with higher SERP placement, traffic would be increase

I agree. And + tons of daily work which need to be done to see results or just hope for results in near future.

I'm sorry I didn't see this post sooner. Because this site is a university your link building tactics should be very different from what you would use for a normal site. You MUST stay away from anything that would compromise the university's reputaiton. That includes any kind of bulk submissions, low quality directories, link exchanges, spamming forums etc. Most of the above advice would not be a appropriate for this site.

What you need to find is sites that focus on education and/or religion. Directories that focus on higher education, research, or religion would be okay. Just make sure they're posting quality sites. You should try to get into Yahoo and dMoz directories if you haven't already.

Look at the link profile of other religious colleges (use the linkdomain: handler in Yahoo) to find out where other instutitions are getting links from.

See if any other sites are talking about ACU or researchers that work there. Make sure you get a linkback from that.

You'll need to work closely with the external relations/media relations people to make sure the school is publicized appropriately. You don't want to hurt the university's reputation by using inappropriate link building tactics. Holding events with local churches is a good idea, but you'll need to bring in other university staff to do that.
