Very curious thing happened over a couple of days. One of our sites lost nearly 1,000 back links. But even worse it continues to lose back links by dribbles. Anyone experiences this?
Any clues?

Thanks

Paul

Is this happening in Google, Yahoo, or MSN? I just checked a few of my sites and everything seems normal. I'm guessing that most of those links were part of some link building scheme like gotlinks so the engine just figured it out and is dropping all them.

Thank you for your reply. All the links added have been done manually. We do not use a link building programme like a link farm or some such. So I can only assume that a whole swath of links were from a source I did not keep track of. The trouble with back links is that at times I have no idea who is linking back as that takes times.

Any other thoughts?

Regards and thanks

perhaps forums etc updated their pages and cut off your sig files and then google updated their crawl stats?

also, google chops and changes its backlink count every now and again.

Maybe the people linking you decided to delete your link, so they only had a one way one?

On msn, no of backlinks show different every day. Google sticks to a particular no of blinks for 3 months. Yahoo is best. They keep total track!
