Dmoz is notorious for taking forever to approve sites (if at all). Try submitting to a more specific category where there may be fewer other sites trying to get in.

Do a google search on this topic too - it's been discussed in the SEO community and you'll find more about why this is happening.

I submitted my site it seems like forever ago, and still nothing. I started looking into it big time but realized that my time could be better spent somewhere else.

I have also noticed that they take their time to review websites.
I added mine to the website hosting in UK section and still it is not there after 4 months...

that's sad. Sad quite a number of the articles i came across while i was setting up my blog spoke of submitting to dmoz. while i didn't think the approval or disapproval would be quick, i'd hoped it would take less than several months.

then again, it's just one of the many tips out there for generating traffic, so i hope i'll have more luck with the others, and maybe i'll hear from the open directory in a month or three.

at least i hope that if and when the posting gets approved, it'll have some effect on my site's traffic. ah well. thanks for the information. Smiling

I think there's some trick out there on how to get approved in dmoz. I'm just not sure of. But just work hard on your site and it might get accepted in no time.

The advice I most often hear is to submit to the most specific category you can find. The general ones tend not to get approved.

It takes a while to be listed on DMOZ, don't forget to list your website in the right category maybe that might fasten it a bit !

Submit that and that's all. Do not spend more efforts on it. As far as I know that is not so valued for the SEO benefits as used to be.

davidvilia makes quite a good point. after all, it hardly takes any time to do it, and once it's done, you can forget about it until you're (hopefully) notified after weeks or months. fire and forget.

Go to dmoz and find the most appropriate category (do a search for one of your competitors). Once you are in the category, click on "suggest URL" at the top and submit your site details.

Then simply wait (possibly till your old and grey) and eventually it will appear.

Dmoz doesnt carry the seo weight it used to, but its still worth getting into, best tactic it to submit leave a few months then submit again

I heard that re-submitting to Dmoz just sends you back to the end of the line - I'm not sure that's valid, but I guess what is worth doing is submit and forget. Btw, the value of being listed with dmoz seems questionable - I mean, one can't expect significant changes in traffic after having been approved in dmoz.

I think Dmoz is playing hard to get. I did re-submit my site to the most specific category but still I'm waiting in vain but maybe Tristesse is right.

There are many alternatives to DMOZ, you can research directories specific for your niche market, and post your website there. DMOZ takes a very long time to approve websites, and many times it is not the best solution to go for.
Other directories can give you the same results as DMOZ, and can save so much pain.

Website submission approval really takes time in DMOZ, all we need is patience, a quality website to submit, and follow the submission guideline.

i doubt i ever get there - it seems that some categories do not have their acting editors any longer. who knows whether they are still taking on new editors and adding new websites. in my category no new website has been added in at least two years since i have been watching mine.

My success rate in DMOZ has been 100% since I figured out two simple things:

- they have plenty of everything already, and
- they only list businesses WHERE THEY ARE BASED.

So, if you've started the web's 1 millionth webhosting comparison site and are wondering why DMOZ hasn't listed you yet, forget it. They don't want to know.

If you've started an eCommerce site selling clothes and are wondering why they didn't list you in 'Shopping / Clothing / Fashion', you submitted to the wrong category. Get real.

Submit to the most appropriate category in the town where your business actually is, which can be confirmed by a postal address on your site. If you have more than one office then you can submit to the county/state.

I have not had a DMOZ sub refused in over 4 years and they always come through in a few months.

If you want to list the site on DMOZ then better forget about it. I have done lots of submission and none showed up. I think DMOZ got screwed up.

we gave up on DMOZ because traffic is more important it does not matter where it comes from? forum, blog, social networking, bookmarking or dmoz.

Good luck to dmoz and who submit their site. i am not spending my time.
