Sprint Car Ad

A friend of mine runs a pit crew for a local sprint car. He offered me the opportunity to sponsor the car at a relatively low price for the entire season and I am wondering what everyone else thinks about it. For $100.00 I could get a small 5" x 5" logo on one side of the car. For $300 I could get a good sized ad on the front fin of one side of the car. For $2000 I could get a good sized ad on both sides of the car plus my ad on there trailer for all to see when they are going from race to race. What do you think? Has anyone here tried anything like this?

It really depends on what type of audience it is that will be watching the race your car is in. For example, will redneck's really be interested in a Link Exchange website?

I would use the ad to advertise my web hosting services. My impression of the audience is that it's made up of a rather diverse group of people. Racing is very popular in this area with professionals and rednecks alike.

Rob has a point about the audience. And a 5"x5" ad on a car covered in ads isn't so noticable.

OTOH, does the car get any close up TV coverage? That could be useful!

I agree. If you had a site about races/cars etc then it would be a great idea as the audience watching all have that hobby in common. Link exchanges and races really dont have much in common with each other so people probably won't be all that interested in your site.

That is only my point of view though.

I would not be advertising my link exchange service, I would be advertising my web hosting service. Racing web pages have become very popular lately. As for TV coverage, that is another issue I will have to decide on. If I place the ad only on the outside it will be seen by the people in the audience, if I place the ad on the inside it has the possibility of showing up in the newspaper, local tv and the Sprint Car Calander.

Can anyone buy an ad on the car for the same price?

Also, how often is the car photographed? I don't think people are going to see a small or medium sized ad from the grandstands but if the car gets lots of close-up pictures and TV coverage that would be worth it.

Who's the driver?

Anyone can sponsor there car but there is a limited ammount of space. The photgraphing is too hard to determine for the coming season. It is based on wins and appearence of the car. If the car wins it will be in the local paper, if the car looks really good and is voted as one of the better cars it will be in posters and calanders. Last year they made it into the calender and was in the paper several times.

Not sure of the drivers name, it is only sprint cars so it is no one famous.

Sorry- I'm a little late in posting...

I think it's a good idea, but only if you gear the ad toward your audience. Like have your hosting companies ad, but gear it towards the people that will actually see it. Like it could say: "Have a racing site? If you do, then we're your host!" Something like that...

Hi,

get your ad on the inside and make
sure it has a very spectaculer crash

No really.
I think if you can afford it go for the big one.

My brother had a small sticker with the url for his webpage in his rearwindow and got more hits from there than from anywhere else.

(No the site is gone ... as the car...)

ciao

Brian - How often do they change ads? Is that cost per year? Per season? Between crashes??

The ad will be on the car for the entire season which is basically the better part of the Spring and Summer.

Just to clarify, the inside of the car means the portion that is facing the inside track, the outside of the car is the part that faces the audience

The painter they use for there car is very good so I think the ad will look nice.

Advertising on a race car just sounds cool, doesn't it? And really, there are many worse ways to spend your advertising. Especially when you think about the ad being on the car for 4-6 months.

Probably the best strategy to take would by the largest you could afford. If $2000 is the most you can afford, buy it. If you can afford a larger size, buy it. It will be difficult to make an impression on the people in the stands watching the race, but the bigger the banner the better your chances of reaching the audience.

Actually, your logo will probably get more eye time before & after the races, and at car shows, when the audience walks around looking at the different cars. It will probably get a few looks on the highway as the car is taken from race to race.

Take full advantage of your advertisement. build a deal around it that will help attract attention. For example, develop a reasonably priced deal that provides free hosting for businesses if they buy $X in advertising (or $X in promotion or design...whichever appeals to them the most). Then have the logo say in big, bold letters: " BizBot.net(or whichever domain you are advertising) - FREE BUSINESS HOSTING". That will definately catch some attention and maybe a few visitors.

In the long run, advertising on a race car may not get you a lot of business. In fact, you might barely make your ad dollars back. But who cares? Your advertising on a race car!

i personally feel the best use of ad dollars for those with a small ad budget (below say 12k a year) is to advertise on the net only.
