I am planning a promotion that consists of pencils, ballons, buttons, etc. My goal is to provide free gifts to users that get a 100% on a math test. The problem I have is money.
The total cost is $2000 to promote with 1000 users and their classrooms.
What is the best way to get sponsors for this type of promotion? How much should I ask each sponsor for?
Thanks for any help.

I would contact local retail stores or stores that specialize in school supplies or that kind of thing and see if they are interested in sponsoring your contest. Tell them your goals and what you hope this will accomplish, and do it in a professional manner so that they will see that you truly are determined and motivated.

Not many stationers are online, and so would only be interested in local customers who can come visit. See if you can find online places instead...
Make sure you wow them with site stats, and maybe get some surveys done on your site so you can find out the average age and spending power of your visits. You need to make it sound like they'd be stupid not to sponsor you!

Thank you both for your help. I believe I will attempt the online route so I can offer them more services. Premium advertising space is something that a local retailer would not be able to benefit from.
I believe I should be asking for $x when I approach these companies. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to ask for? Remember that $2000 is my goal to reach the first 1000 users and 1000 classrooms.
