Social media is very effective way to get huge amount of traffics for your websites. Social media is just like a networking work. Create your profile to related sites like on facebook or myspace and try to invite people who can be interested in your business or services. You can comment for any other services or products.

Keep in mind that try to avoid comments like spam otherwise Social networking site can ban your id and if some one report your site to google then you can be in big problem

And if your asking what would be the benefit in doing Social Media Optimization is that it inspires you to create excellent, keyword-rich content, which in turn can help build your online and offline brand, increase quality inbound links over time, make you a subject matter expert, and expose your content to thousands of new visitors. It reinforces what you should be working towards through your search engine optimization campaign.

I personally find SEO and SMO synonymous. (the same) Each social network has it’s own interfacing , but the basics are the same. If you understand SEO, then you're good to go. I assume you’re using social bookmarks, so that search engines will pick up what you have set up and ultimately create traffic. The concept of Key Word research is still the same. Really nothing changes because you're using a social book mark. The only difference I find with social bookmarking is like using blogs. The conversation should be way more informal and shorter.

SMO is something that I'm still trying to master. So far, I've only had limited success. If anything I use it to rank up for keywords and articles.

In my opinion, to be effective in SMO, Fresh and unique content submission is the key. Because Content is king to search engines, regular content updates give search engine bots a signal to crawl your site.
