Same domain, Sub domain, Different domain effects on S.E.O.?
Hi,
I'm new to the forums and pretty new to S.E.O. aswell. I was wondering if you could help me with something. As an example, we have a company with COMPANY.COM, the company want a blog, what differences, pluses and negatives are there to these 3 options in terms of search engine rankings?
1. Hosting the blog at COMPANY.COM/BLOG
2. Hosting the blog at BLOG.COMPANY.COM
3. Hosting the blog at COMPANYBLOG.COM
The main reason behind wanting to know, is that the first option (obviously the most ideal) may not be possible, so I want to know which of 2 or 3 is best and how it compares to option 1.

I think 2 would be better than 3. 1 is best because then any links you get go directly to the company website and aren't channeled through another domain (losing "juice" along the way).

The second one feel better than all others.. bcz all blog url found as sub domain start with blog.xxx.com.... So its familiar for all

Hm...not really. AFAIK, not all blogs URL are like that. I saw more likely the first is more common on the net. So I vote for the first one. There's also benefit with the first one. If your main site get a PR, then there's a chance that the inner page will get it too.

If i would have given the choice then i will surely go for the 1st one and then for the second. Second option gives you a subdomain which can help in the flow PR juice from the main domain but third option gives a completely new domain and loosing all PR.Have to start working from scratch.

if you use a sub domain like this sub.domain then you have do separate SEO for this because google and all other search engines consider it as a separate site so you have to use your sub domain this way www.domain.com/sub and the best way to do SEO is to use your own domain not a sub domain.

Yes, hosting blog on diffent domains have different impact on SERP's. According to get ranking in search engine priory of blog are as follows:-
1.Hosting the blog at COMPANYBLOG.COM
2.Hosting the blog at BLOG.COMPANY.COM
3.Hosting the blog at COMPANY.COM/BLOG
Hosting the blog at COMPANY.COM/BLOG is always a better option concern with backlinks.

I'd go with option one, consolidating all of the company's content into a single domain. I believe that will be better in the long run for SE ranking.

COMPANY.COM/BLOG is better since it is under the main directory and when promoting the blog, you can get backlinks for the main site.

and BLOG.COMPANY.COM - for your blog.
That all means that blog will absolute independent site and you have change get 2 position in SERP (for COMPANY and BLOG). Okey?
and now, if you choice COMPANY.COM/BLOG, your blog will be in body of your company site. If you get mistakes in promotion and your company site get filter, blog will be in top (its good, rigt)

Among all these options second option is preferable. Second option is consider as Sub Domain First option will show as one html page while in third option it will change whole main domain name.
