Questions about Link exchanges

Hi All,

I have been reading as much as I can get my hands on about SEO techniques including link exchanges. I have read that they are the best thing in the world and also heard that they can be useless if the PR is not there and if they employ the "do not follow" tactic.

I have been searching for forums and blogs that do not employ the "do not follow" on their links and I have to say the pickings are very slim. I have gone to some sites that say they have lists of forums and links that do not employ this tactic, but have only come up with a couple that are worth mentioning. The majority of the site did in fact have "do not follow" links on their posts.

Where can I find a good source of forums and blogs that do not use the "do not follow" on their sites?

I am looking for a very wide array of links as I have a few sites up right now that I want to do this for. One site is for b2b leads with 125 categories, others are for commercial finance to sports recreation...

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks

Wade

Chasing DoFollow Blogs
When did dofollow blogs become the link acquisition practice du jour? Honestly, I have yet to see competitive rankings earned from a dofollow blog link strategy, and the focus on it to the exclusion of other, more valuable and scalable linking tactics is a cause for concern. When you're starting a link building campaign, remember the immortal words "nothing worth having comes easy."

Link Exchanges don't work. You should consider posting articles on Digg.com and viral-marketing on social sites such as Myspace and Facebook.

I think to be successful, it's necessary to combine a number of techniques. As for SEO, despite there are so many recommendations on how to raise your site or forum rate but no one knows for sure and the majority just have to do it at random

There are a lot of dofollow blogs out there, but many don't advertise the fact. I think the best approach is to just keep Googling for blogs in your niche and comment thoughtfully on as many as possible.

Some of these will be dofollow, so you'll get some link juice directly off the comment. But the other comments (on nofollow blogs) are still very much worth doing because the blog owner himself might link back to you at some stage in a blog post (with a dofollow link).

Then of course many of the readers are bloggers themselves, so they might link to you if they like your site. That's why it's important to write thoughtful comments that show you know stuff!

I think, you should prefer 1 way linking while if you want for link exchange then go for only selective sites, which are highly ranked and dont go for the sites which are only for link exchanging.

You should know importance of marketing before going for seo marketing.

link exchange is good because you can get quality and relevant links through this, but it takes time. I prefer more on viral marketing and posting on do follow social bookmarking sites like redd it and digg.

Someone up there said link exchanges dont work. That simply is not true. Even reciprocal linkexchanges can add some SEO value if done with relevance and moderation. They can also send clickthrough traffic.

One way links to your site are of course the best sort however.

Link Exchanges don't work

That's not correct. They do work, just not as much as one-way links. You need to make sure that you exchange with relevant sites, and you need to choose your link partners carefully to make sure that they aren't doing anything that could get them banned and damage your reputation with Google. Finally you need to make sure that reciprocal links are not the only types of links you have. If you follow those rules then they still work.
