I have the opportunity to acquire a website very similar to my own. In fact it is currently one of my major competitors.
We even have some duplicate advertisers, and I sure some duplicate traffic.
But what the hell do I do with it after I get it?
I don't want (I don't think I want) to sit here with two websites competing with each other. Or do I?
Idealy, I'd like to take the other website's assets (their name, their reputation, their advertising, and their traffic) and merge them into mine. But I don't have the foggist idea as to how accomplish that without getting screwed up with the search engines.
If it were you, how would you handle it?

I think it would deped on your total competition.
If it is just two of you, buy it and put up a notice that you have aquired it, and then redirect back to your site. There is no where else to go, so old clients will follow through to your site, even if they don't care for it.
If there are many competing sites, then it would really come down to how much time it would take you to manage both sites to determine if it is worth the hastle. If you did a redirect to your own site they may decide to go elsewhere if they don't care for your site.
Mind giving a hint to what type of site it is?

Based on the site you gave a link to (an index to adult escorts), it is probably best to redirect the purchased one to your site, as you would probably need to keep all escorts information up to date.
Please note that I only removed the link you gave due to the images on the site. Feel free to continue discussing the topic though.
