What is the best method to promote a good dating/social networking website?
We are in need of online marketing/promotions for our dating/social networking site. Ell-asia.com went online June 2006. We now have over 19,000 registered members. The split in profiles is about 11,000 female and 8,000 male. Since June last year we have averaged 60 registered members per day. We have reached the point in the development of the site that we must charge a nominal monthly fee of $9.95 USD to the male members. It remains free for everyone to register their profile and to browse all the members profiles. The fee is for the communicating with the other members. It's a good clean site but its not "known" yet. What's the best way we can be known to the Dating/Social Networking world?
The overall site concept continues to develop and is currently about 3% developed.
Any suggestions as to what methods of marketing/promotions work best for a new site like this?

Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network (old Overture), AdBrite, Text Link Ads, Bidviser, any of the countless text based ad marketers work for light branding, and is realitively cheap. id suggest to target the social aspect of the website, and be very cautious with 'asian' since it is primarily an adult search term, and may lower ROI and possibly even damage your 'clean' reputation.
id also suggest aligning or partnering with Music, Video Game, video sites (like google videos, youtube), and sports sites. these hold high concentrations of male visitors usually 18-30 years old, which, should be your target visitor group anyways.
stay away from banner/link exchanges.
you could also post all pictures to google images, yahoo images, etc (given a modification to your privacy policy to allow you rights to distribute images of users), submit user profiles to article sites, and the other countless thousands of ways for free promotion and marketing.
with around $100-200 a day you should see a nice visitor increase jump within a day or two.

you might contact some sites in Alexa top 2,000 and look for good advertising opportunities. Target high traffic sites and post member profile pictures.
If you make really attractive banners, young males will click on them and join.
I guess you also have to have a way to attract female members.
Am not sure the best way to target females but males go to lots of sites with humor and online games.
