Hi,
I've been having a lot of trouble promoting my design services. I am trying to offer high quality work at very affordable rates but it doesn't seem to be working; I'm pretty much done with local marketing and I've tried everything to get some worthwhile clients. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to get me site out there?
Thanks!

Looking at your site you have done yourself no favours with the search engines by having it structured the way it is, although you do have a nice site. Having said that we, as a design company, don't get many people contact us over the internet having looked at our site. I just don't think that's how people go about looking for a website designer. IME companies that don't have websites, or have crap ones, are wary about the internet and need convincing that a website can work for them, that's why we have always contacted companies and talked them round to our way of thinking!
You say you are done with local marketing - in what way? What have you tried, how many sites have you done?
Word of mouth is the best way to get business, that's where 90% of our new business comes from - existing clients telling their friends & collegues and recommending our services.

There is nothing wrong with the site, i think the best way to market is go for #1 position in search engines. Mabye try looking through all the classified add job posting to see if anyone is out there that needs design services, my suggestion is to contact big companies and ask if they need your services. The webmistress has a good point that there is not alot of people that contact you over the internet but I am sure there are searches out there that involve your service and as long as you have the best position your site will most likely be able to bring them in.

I have had some luck with sites like buyerzone.com. I know a lot of ery succesful webmasters may frown upon sites like that, but that is how I am getting leads right now. I am also at a loss of how to advertise. It's a tough market right now, very experienced web design companies are offering services for dirt cheap to keep their businesses going while smaller freelancers like us are struggling. Keep the faith.

You may add "partner links page" to your site and to exchnage links with quality webmaster related web sites. It will help you to increase link popularity.

The best advice I can give you is a tried and true classic, Join A Busines Group in your area. Your local chamber of comerence. Start to network and in time you'll get to now local business people who will be in the need for your service and they'll refer their business friends who are in the market for what you provide. I belong to 3 groups, 60% of my sales and business comes from these 3 groups. Thats 60% of business generating just from drinking tea, wine, sampling cheese, making small talk and playing golf. Depending on your city fee's range from $150 to $250 for the year, some meet once a month or once a week.

Hey there, obviously you are having a problem marketing your site. You need to let people know that you have a skill (design) that they need to come ahead. Your service has to be a well needed service for it to be marketed, people are going to need that service to run their business's or whatever they may be doing. Just something to think about when trying to get your site well-known.
Hope it helps.
Thanks,
