Obviously this begs the next question: what do you do with the press release(s) when you finish? How do you know where or to whom they should be submitted?

I also saw a site somewhere where they will submit your press release to thousands of media sources for $$$...

Sure, press releases do that, but also much more. Companies use press releases to inform people of company changes (IE: new CEO, etc...), site changes, and service changes. Writing a press release just about the launch of the site is a tiny peice in the pie.

Check out these sites. They offer Press Release writing tips as well as paid services to write and distribute them.

I am sure there are more out there. These are just two that I have looked into. I haven't used any yet, but may use eReleases next week because their targeted distribution list looks pretty good.
