If you do onpage and offpage SEO, then the search engines should send you targetted traffic (ie people who are genuinely interested in what your site has to offer).
For casual, traffic, you might try Stumbleupon, digg, mixx, propeller, etc - these can also help a bit with backlinks. I belive they can generate more traffic if you work at getting a circle of online "friends".

Youtube is one of the best way to bring traffic.. post some good video and place the add on it... and also work with bookmarking

stumbleupon and digg have been sending traffic to my web site in the last 2 - 3 days but I am not really interested in that kind of traffic. I want my visitors to stay and browse around. I would put effort on on page SEO or paid advertising.

Depending on what kind of traffic you are interested in, you can decide where you want your traffic coming from. In my opinion, organic traffic is the best and long lasting.

Just continue doing the link building strategies to get more traffic and backlinks from different search engines..

My own experience has led me to believe that (after the domain name and url name) the two most important things that help you get to the top of Google, and attract more visitors are:

1. Constantly add new information and new pages. Every time Google visits, it checks for changes. If it sees no change, it doesn't come back so often. If it always sees changes, it comes back more often.

2. Keep your site online. So many people start sites then loose interest after a few months because they don't get many visitors. Google knows when your site was first hosted, and it awards extra kudos for sites that have existed for more than two years.

The best free backlinks are articles, forum posts, blog comment and profile links. Just stick to these and you should be able to rank up in less then 3 months.

Most of the SEO methods are very powerful in bringing traffic to your site. I usually use social bookmarking and link building for getting traffic to my site.

Link building is I think the best way to increase your traffic. However, just like the other mentioned before, social bookmarking and networking are also good to increase your traffic.

As far as traffic is concerned ...its very easy to get it ...

But i would recommend you to target your desirable audience....and to get that..You need to join some related forums so that every body who is coming to your site is really somebody who is looking for the same information you are already providing...
