Attention, all you marketing gurus:
I'm searching for a new domain name for my web site, The Web Server Times. The present name is too limited.
Over the next two months, I'll be switching to a new blog format. The new format will include an improved search engine and a user-friendly archive.
We'll continue the technical news, but I'll insert some other commentary as well (and hope it doesn't sound like the self-indulgent claptrap you read on too many other blogs). You'll find some comments on politics, the stock market, history, etc., but only as they relate to Internet technology.
According to my web stats, the most popular articles on this site have been related to security and emerging technology, so you'll definitely be getting more of those.
I've thought of names like web-tech-consumer.com and web-consumer-blog.com, but I really need some other eyes to look at the site to see what kind of name would be appropriate. So, if you could just skim a few of the articless, or even just the titles, I'd appreciate your feedback.
Many thanks, as always,

OK, in what way is The Web Server Times limited? What isn't it covering, what isn't it letting you do? Knowing those answers will help to come up with a "good" name that should last a long time.
Personally though, I like your site's title. Also be aware that when you change the name you will effectively be starting from scatch from a marketing standpoint. You won't just be reinventing yourself, you'll be a whole new site.
Consider carefully if that's what you really want to do. AT&T is synonymous with communications even though they're into cell phones and the net, and the only telegraphs most folks have seen have been in museums. (AT&T stands for American Telephone & Telegraph.) Heck, does International Business Machines make you think of computers? But everybody knows that IBM makes computers, printers, scanners, and all kinds of good toys like that.
I would change the tag line though. To what I don't know. We spent two days mulling over tag lines for one of our products and we've had it for quite some time now. It's not the easiest thing to do well. (Now if you don't care so much about the quality...

OK, in what way is The Web Server Times limited?
It doesn't really describe what the site is about, other than its being about web servers. The "Times" part suggests a newspaper, but (after two years) I don't think that grabs visitors who are searching through Google for information.
I've been advised that a domain name should contain a call to action, like solving a specific problem, satisfying a need or providing a benefit. My most popular articles have dealt with web security and emerging tech. (Articles about Google, SCO vs. Linux, Smart Dust, Worms, Viruses, Spam, etc.) So, I tried to combine the idea of web security and emerging web tech, but could only come up with these dubious domains:
uncertainwebfuture.com
securingwebtechfuture.com
securingfuturewebtech.com
secureyourwebfuture.com
secureyourwebbiz.com
Other suggestions are:
webtechblog.com
webfutureblog.com
yourwebfuture.com
yourfutureweb.com
future-web-biz.com
your-future-web-biz.com
web-tech-trends.com
webtechtrends.com

I get you. Hmmm, I'm thinking something like lock down or guard for security, and something like look ahead or heads up for emerging tech. Maybe something along the lines of now and future. There's got to be some phrase that can be modified slightly.
Secure Horizons? Nah. But something. I'll seewhat I can come up with.
