Hi,

I have a new site targeted towards all type of geeks but don't have any marketing budget yet Sad
Do you have any suggestion on how I can get the word out about my site? I would be EXTREMELY GRATEFUL for any help or suggestion.

Thanks!

Hiya! First welcome to TWF, next stick around into other communities like here and continue to provide great contributions and be active too, everyone will slowly notice your own niche community and some might decide to join... thats a fair way to start marketing your own community site with nothing to spend...

Write some good content, especially something that would be likely to end up on Digg. There are certain types of content that tend to get passed around a lot - posted on digg, blogged about etc. You could do some dating advice for geeks, for example. Or some basic advice on socializing with other human beings. Think about what people would find interesting or funny enough to pass on. As it is right now there's no real content on the site which doesn't give anyone a reason to link to you.

If you want to promote the dating thing you'll need to findsome female geeks, which is a toughie. Otherwise it's just guys and that's no good. Look for sites that are targetted towards women in technology, women and video games, women and science, that sort of thing.

Thank you so much, Demonhale and Megan!
Your suggestions are great and I will definitely work hard to follow them.

Since I'm not much of a writer, do you know of the best way that I can find legitimate good writers for an inexpensive amount of money?

There are actually some people that would provide you some content or article for a link credit of the work for there sites. Try contacting them, or post in the market place that youll give a link to whoever could give or write for you short articles about technological topics. And i dont think your really no good at writing i think you just need to practice and try to do it yourself. Write one article and post it here if you need any help and feedback on that article, most definitely people here can help you with that...

Digg.com should bring you tons of traffic as I have heard. And hanging around in webmaster forums should do you good too. Meanwhile keep yourself updated on new technologies and gadgets too Wink

Hi,
We've added additional content to our site. I've also been in many forums with a signature leading to our mygeekcommunity.com site. However, it's not working Sad What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Van

It would take sometime to get those links indexed and be available in the searc... Double the SIG link and instead of using your direct URL, try the anchor text like "my geek community, community for geeks" etc... and link to those, to have bigger impact... Also try and start writing your links to free directories and classified ads on the net, and time will be the only factor left... just be patient...

Demonhale is right be patient. Website traffic is usually a slow process. How about a bit of offline marketing - go to all the computer retailers around your area and give them a brochure about your site. Seems like they're the target market. And they'll have their own geek networks (friends, etc) they might pass it on to.

By the way, would it offend you as a proud geek to say that in your photo you don't look like a geek? I guess I should brush up on my geek etiquette ........
