It really depends on what you want to acheive and what your site is like. If you think you'll make money from random banner ads or pop-ups/ins/unders then I suggest you think again as many people now have pop-? killers or if not they get annoyed by the interference and will just close them.

Your best bet is to choose adverts relevant to your sites content and which your visitors are likely to click on because they'l be of interest/use to them.

Where are you based as this may have an effect on the affiliates recommended.

Is there a Website where you can join a bunch of systems all at once instead of having to join multiple banner swaps etc?

Thank you for support for abraham. I understand that some visitors do not like pop under/up.

Actually, there are less software which can kill pop in banners. So popin is the good choice to earn more money

Also a good way to earn more enemies. I am personally of the opinion that slide in ads are more irritating than pop-ups. They are certainly more likely to stop me visiting a site again.

I have heard that CJ rips people off. You are talking about comission junction correct? I have heard many stories stating they have breaken contact with sites after the site makes them big sells. Meaning CJ made money and the site ading them didnt make a dime.

ValueClick (parent company of BeFree) bought out CJ and is expected to merge all Befree operations to CJ... CJ will be the largest Affiliate program to join. But don't forget about using Google Adsense too.

I assume most of you are talking about joining one of these programs as an advertiser (i.e. placing a comany's banner on your site), as opposed to joining as a supplier (having affiliates place your banners on their sites). I've done that in the past and it produced next to nothing in terms of revenues.

All of the affiliate programs I've seen are very expensive (setup and monthly costs) if you want to participate as a supplier. Is anyone aware of some that are reasonably priced? Thanks.

If you get good traffic and good content on your site I feel that you would be happy to join Google Adsense.

Joining affilate programs are typically free are you wanting to have affilates sell products for you site if so yes they do typically have some cost to them. But ClickBank.com or leadhound.com may be one of the cheapest for somone start their own affilate program.

Thanks, I'll look into these.

My site has its own (in-house) affiliate program. I wonder if I should even bother with it, or just go with a 3rd party affiliate service like the two you mentioned, that already has a large base of potential affiliates (even tough it could cost more). With an in-house program, people might be more hesitant to join due to concerns about non-payment, etc.

Or maybe I'll use both.

I use a combination of google ads and affiliate based advertising - never any pop ups, pop ins, pop outs, pop tarts!

it works well, try theprisoner.info for an example.

Click thru and sales are low to medium at best but hey ho, slow progress!
