Is this a question? Do you mean like directories that will add links to your site instantly?

I don't think it matters how quickly a site will add a link, the only important factor is the quality of the site that link is from.

One other thing to consider: if a site is willing to add your URL instantly, then it will do the same for any site. Google probably wouldn't see a site with this policy as being of very high quality. Smiling

Instant link as doing with software or use some techniques, so it readable by the Google. if they have good quality links. Then of course they will count by the Google.

A link is a link in the eyes of the Google bots. Whether they were made instantly. But just remember it is better to gradually build backlinks than having tons of them all at once.

I think this is probably what he was asking cuz you can't have instant
(fast) and gradual at the same time.

Anyways, I think the concept of gradually building links in order to
appear natural is nuts. LOL

No one can define "gradual".
Getting links fast is a sign of breaking news; Google loves that!

Deliberately building your links slowly is paranoia.

I think some people have done some research to show that a fast increase in backlinks (breaking news story, hugely popular article on the social bookmarking or whatever) doesn't result in long-term SEO improvements. That's where that's coming from.

It sort of makes sense to me - is this a one hit wonder or is it a true quality site? Links over time will tell you that. I think some of the researchers may have even seen a drop afer a temporary improvement with a quick rush of links. I need a reference for that though...

Hi Megan,

That's exactly right. The drop is because the links stopped coming in.

A steady stream of incoming links would be best. My point is that so many people issue warnings like "too many, too fast could hurt you", that it has caused a wide-spread paranoia in the webmaster community. The drop that you mention is not a penalty, it's just that the stream of incoming links stopped, so the site drops down to wherever it belongs. It settles. Things smooth out.

That is exactly what should happen, perfectly normal.

There are so many warnings of don't do this and don't do that, that we
are left with almost nothing. Our hands are tied.

I suppose you are correct when you frame it as not a "long-term SEO" improvement, but not all of us have years and years to build up our site. One thing to keep in mind, is that a temporary rise in the SERPs could bring the attention of those that might link to your site, and those that might blog about your site, and might cause the spark that your site needs to really be well known, and THAT would be long term.

but anyways, just one man's opinion,
