I would like to raise a question about social book sites here! What are your ideas, recommendations and strategies on how to promote a website in social networks like Digg, Delicious and others? Is there any sense to perform website submission to social networking sites and how to get high amounts of traffic as a result? Could you please share your own experience on this matter?

I think that the general rule with social media sites is that most of the time you don't want to promote yourself. Because if you do, other members in the community will see that as spamming. So it's good to promote other people's sites and stories, and wait for other members to promote your own.

In my experience, here is the best method

1) Gather as many friends on Digg as you can

2) Post new articles on a daily basis per updates (New content only, no duplicates)

3) Post a bulletin asking all your friends and colleages to Digg your articles

4) Repeat the steps above.

first thing you need to do is look for people that has the same interest as your, build you reputation over these peoples to gain their trust.. these people will be the one who will be your frequent visitors or customers to your website, if they were really pleased with what you were doing they may also refer you to some of their friends.. this is how social networking sites works..

hope it gave you a little bit of idea~

submitting to social bookmarking sites are a great way to get huge amount of traffic and for search engines to index your website, also we can get backlinks from this sites, but it is more idealistic to build our reputation in this sites and share our interest with other people.. gaining friends is a must.

I've got some experience of using social networks to promote your business. I can't say I had a lot of success with it((( Yes, I tried to make friends with as many people as I could. Some of them sent me messages. But I can't say that after it my traffic grew greatly.
