Forums typically generate revenue through adsense and other affiliate programs. I personally find it hard to promote a webmaster forum though.
I have tried writing articles and submitting them to article directories, posting in similar subject forums, commenting on relevant blogs, submitting to directories, and submitting to social bookmarking services.
I feel that is a pretty good mix of promotion techniques all free. I have also done some forum post trades and that is where most of my posts have come from.
Besides that I am just receiving spam posts that I have to delete. Just wondering if you guys could suggest any other promotional techniques.
Anyways my forum is http://www.awebmasterforum.com
Any help would be great!

Two things - firstly, your site looks to be quite new. You have to be patient. Secondly, the techniques you are trying are easy and free but not particularly lucritive for any site. You're going to have to do a lot of that over a long period of time to reap any rewards.
Oh yeah - webmasters forums are particularly attractive to spammers. I can tell you about that first hand! You have to put in some rules and barriers to hold them back a bit (see our post count limits on the Market Place forums).

I have a webmaster forum myself, I don't realy promote it since I'm not sure if it'll be the same cause i got plans to do a major site update with phpbb3 forum. Anyway no one realy tries to spam on it, but it's not listed in searches and only a few members... http://www.ssboard.co.nr

Webmaster forums are hard to promote not because of the lack of interest in the niche, but because most people flock to the handful of forums that dominate the niche.
