How to promote?

From my first impression, it is not instantly clear what your site is about (it is not clear after reading the 'about' section, but that is probably me being dense!). On your front page, you have a series of links for other stories, and a small paragraph down the bottom that only really points you to the 'about' page again.

What you need is some defenitive content area, and to stick with that. Make use of titles on the top graphic that gives a slogan or summary of the website. Google works by putting things into a series of pigeon holes, and at the moment, it can't decide which pigeon hole to put it into, as it can't classify your website. Keep it to one or two areas, and then promote it for those areas - the name heebie.co.uk won't do it for you.

And by all means, get a link to your site in as many places as possible.

I've found that putting a sweepstakes on there and adding it to some popular sweepstakes websites works wonders. Then, like Sam said, just make your content interesting, and some people will hang around for the content as well.

You have recieved some good input from those that have responed.. my comments are..

1. You need good interesting content.. traffic needs to have a reason to visit your site

2. Your fonts are to small for many of us to read without our nose on the computer screen

3. You do need some "SEO" help. There are many on the Web, but you need to be careful of those selling to an aduience that does not understand "SEO" work. Always ask for examples and look at the listing of their site.

4. Make it clear the purpose of your site.

Promote extensively, if you have the dough, cough up some bucks and advertise on trains, taxis, tvs and the like...
What I use in my "local serving" site is I go around leaving some flyers on coffee tables, coffe shops, resto, restrooms, phonebooths, malls, inside newspapers its kinda tiring but if you create enough curiousity then youll get that traffic you need (targeted traffic is best)... Patience is also a virtue here... Not unless youre offering something innovative that youll end up with quite a stir... Controversy is good too..
