I see people talking about where most of their traffic comes from. How do you find that out??? All i have is a hit counter to show how many people come. i dont know how to tell where they are seeing my site at. Thanks.

Most web hosting plans that are not free have some sort of control panel. These will take the raw logs stored about your domain and format them so they're more readable, often including graphs and the like. Then you can read tons of stats on your visitors.

some of the counter providers record better stats. Check out sites like thecounter.com

We have started using 123stat.com, although it costs more, we like the features it has. It breaks down vistors pretty well by city. Although it doesn't have practical use, I do like their world map that has "pins" showing where our visitors come from.
TheCounter.com is also very nice, have been using them for other projects for a while, and (the last time i had to pay for it) was a lot cheaper.

extreme tracker has a free version (just place a small 25x25 image?), has pretty good stats, also has paid version which you'd expect to be a lot better.

I strongly recomend statcounter.com it gives you a ton of information, it can be set as invisible, it's just an all in all good deal and it's free to boot.

If you have perl in your server, you should use awstats which is free, and it is one of the best log analyzers.
