I guess it depends on what product you are selling and what audience you are targetting. Myspace.com is very popular with teens and young adults. If your website appeals to that specific age group, i would say go ahead and give a shot.
Thanks I've just got a few ideas Im going to try. I'm starting a directory contoured around myspace, and a myspace layout site with a whore train. I just figured out how to make 1000's of friends a day and I figure I should try to make something semi-long term out of it. Something besides just selling accounts.
Myspace is tricky from what I can tell so far.
Its very much a word-of-mouth thing. There are some really basic sites that have caught on and done quite well for themselves just by referral-to-referral-to-referral of myspace users.. but the most successful such sites I've seen provide some kind of gimicky benefit to myspacers.
If you want to capitalize on this kind of marketing, I highly recommend checking out the book "The Tipping Point." It really changed the way I see word of mouth and internet marketing.

I made a myspace for my website and even managed to get it to look like my main illustration site a little. Didn't manage to generate any interest though so I deleted the account recently. I put plenty of thumbnails of my cartoons and illustrations but didn't really get the hang of adding friends. That's the only way to get exposure with myspace.
There are actually tons of groups with more mature people on myspace. The teens and young adults are the majority but if you use the right tools you can micro target certain groups and market just to them.
