I tryed to locate some og the directorys it claims to submit to, but not even google can find them, the only place these directorys show up, is on the list all the different submit software CLAIMS to submit to.... give mi your thoughts on this issue please

DO NOT use submission services. They may not be a scam, but they usually submit to 1000's of link farm sites which can get you banned. Do the work yourself....you will save money, your *ss, and you'll feel good about doing quality work yourself.

DON'T DO IT. I wouldn't even use a free service but I certainly wouldn't pay money for it.
They often say that they will submit your site to 10,000 search engines. Come on! I doubt there are 10,000 public search engines in the world, let alone 10,000 search engines that people acutually use. It's just BS. I'd say a dozen major search engines at the most probably cover 95% of all internet searches (but I have no stats to back up that guesstimate)
I ususally don't need to do anything to get listed on Google. They just find me. I'll then submit to DMOZ/ODP but it's often hard to get your site accepted, and even if it is, it may take six months or more. DMOZ supplies all the major directories so if you're lucky enough to get in there then you're golden. If your site is a profit-maker and you decide to spend the money on the investment you could also buy your way into Yahoo, although I don't recommend it.
Nip it in the bud!

I wouldn't have said that ALL se software is a scam. I have used Web CEO for a number of months and it's proved very useful and reliable. Agreed though that hand submission is the best route and avoid the 10,000 sites submitted claims.
There are in fact only about 6 or 7 major search engines and they feed al the rest. This link: http://www.search-this.com/search_engine_decoder.asp gives a really good graphic visualisation of how the engines interact.

Thats fair enough, once bitten, twice shy and all that. Web CEO do have a good rep but there is nothing to beat doing it by hand if you have the time!
