Hi, I'm new to the forum. It seems like I've found a really good one having looked about the internet for some time.

I'm a recent business graduate and have started working for a small business, Ive been thrown in at the deep end and told to create a marketing/sales brochure. Nobody in the company has ever done this before as we got all our work from our parent company.

I understand the basics of compiling a brochure but was hoping for some practical advice on the pro's and cons of my options.

Questions I have:

  1. Should I go with a marketing/printing firm to compile this with me? - How much would this cost for a standard 4 page brochure?
  2. Should I design it completely by myself? If so, Should I purchase special software?
  3. What other options are open to me/points should I consider?

1. Yes. This would be the ideal position to take. If your company or product has a serious offering and you wish to present it the the most favorable ilght then search for and outsource to the best that you can afford. Go shopping (web searching) for help.

2. This would be nice but would require you go through a learning curve. This would be the best position to take for the long run but would require some time before you become proficient. If your business or product can wait for a time then do it. You'll save time on the other end.

3. Other options may include finding semi-pros on forums like this one. Search this forum for graphics pros and look at their portfolios (portfolios don't lie). Also, search other forums you may belong to.

Thanks for the advice.

I have decided to use a desktop publisher called PagePlus, which I have got a free trial with.

It seems to be working out quite well although as you said is taking some time to finalise. I have now spent around a month compiling the brochure but it should be completed soon.

Thanks again,
