Hi there,
Often times, the topic of your site will determine if it gets accepted or rejected by companies like BURST!. If you have a site that BURST! has a lot of members with already, they won't accept you, unfortunately. This is true for gaming sites, especially.
Here are a few other companies that offer some CPM and are considered reputable by publishers:
fastclick.com
valueclick.com
"Defaults" are ads that are sort of "backup" ads for an ad company. For example, I use BURST! to serve the majority of my site's ads and as you know, BURST! can't serve every single request, so they have to send the excess somewhere. That's where defaults come in. In BURST!'s member area, you can set your defaults to go to another company, like Fastclick, which I use in this case, or Valueclick.

i know this is a loaded question(like how long is a piece of string)but as a guesstimate what would one expect to earn in cpm revenue for a site getting 50 000 unique visitors from your average advertiser.in other words what the minimal acceptable in your humble opinion.likewise for cpa and cpc as that way ill know if i should drop someone.however i dont want to be unrealistic,so what do you think is realistic?much appreciate your help, your advice has been most pertinant and heeded.
thanks

cpm deals with page views, not unique visitor (but u keep mention unique visitors for some reason).
if ur making .50 cpm these days ur not doing bad.

what about cpc?surely their not as discerning.i feel shortchanged with just cpa.i mainly track unique visitors as i thought that was more important.what constitutes a page view as oppossed to a unique visitor?
thanks

yeh, I remember the days when 468x60 banners got $2-$5 cpm.
The easiest cpm ones to get into are
http://www.banner-mania.com - The catch, which they try so hard to hide is that there is a 9 second delay in banners. This means that there is a minimum 9 second wait between credited impressions from the same ip address. Their current rate is $0.25cpm
http://www.validads.com - they only track unique impressions, on unique impression per 24 hours. Their current ad rate is $1cpm but ranges from $1-$5. You get 1500 uniques a day which is really great and will get you around $45US a month.
These aren't the highest paying, but the easiest I know of to get into.
One that has a lot of ad banners to burn and has great rates is http://www.focusin.com Very reputable company, one you can trust. Earn about $2+cpm depending on your site and traffic. The great thing about this company is they pay you for each and EVERY impression you generate. This one is a little harder to get into but I reccomend it.

Explain to me this. Just because you didn't get accepted, you think they are a bad company? I understand your frustration, but don't think you have any basis to talk negatively about a company just because you didn't get accepted. You need first-hand experience or express proof, IMO.
To address knoplix's questions, the average CPM is anywhere from $.50 CPM to $.75 on most banner networks for the standard banners. Keep in mind, those rates are just for untargeted, RON (Run-of-Network) ads, targeted ads are a much different story. Take SitePoint.com, for example. They sell their own advertising at rates up to $30 CPM. If you sell your own targeted ads, it is possible to make a good profit. My point is not all ads are as low at $.50, just untargeted ones.
I also recommend you visit net-ads.com for full reviews of the most popular banner and affiliate networks.

note: someone mentioned focusin, i don't know of anyone that has been paid by them in months.
i've heard they're going to do the old switcharoo (name change & new image), basically just change their name and not pay folks all the money owed prior to the name change.

hilarious, he recommends focusin because their site looks professional, even though no one has been paid in months (unprofessional and maybe even been fraudulent, if they know they don't have the money to pay folks. focusin shouldn't be stringing people along).

from what i've heard:
focusin is going under, they're only going to be paying 0-60% to webmasters of what they r owed, and then a new company (yet another new name for them) will take over the affiliate base.
datais aka focusin aka "new name to come soon" (for more suckers)

K, this is my situation. ..
I am in a professional business with hardly any budget for the website (beyond my contol) I am looking for more income without adding pop ups or cheesey ads. I shy from Ecommerce because of our current situation. Can anyone think of affiliates or programs that would be ideal for a business profession that is also family-friendly? PLEASE HELP!

I know of one site that offers banners on altavista, looksmart, at&t, copernic, and getsearches.com, for 8 cpm. It is for skyscraper keyword banners. Is that a good deal Please respond.

CJ hasn't been that successful for me as of right now. Another question I have. Does anyone use Urchin.com for stats?
