Backlink Checker (free preferably)

I am trying to find a good utility to check the number of backlinks my sites have on a weekly basis to see how my backlinks are progressing. I did use the SEO Book tool for this but they only use Yahoo and Live.

When I did the check using that tool it cut the list quite short. I have tried a few other sites that have it but they do not export the results and I would like to have them so I can reference back and see the progression in hard data so I can improve my tactics for future projects.

I installed the Google analytics on the site, but I did not see the option on there for checking back links either.

Does anyone know the best utility for me to do this on a regular basis?

Thanks

Wade

I just started using this tool myself and I highly recommend it. You may have to disable it when not using it on firefox as it seems to slow the browser down though.

That's because Google won't show you all the backlinks they know about.

Every tool I've ever seen uses the Yahoo data. Yeah, they might also include some from Google, but usually Yahoo has it anyway.

Will be interesting to see what happens to SiteExplorer when Bing start providing the Yahoo results...

I have had the site up for a couple of years now and just gave it a major overhaul to make it more user friendly and increase the rankings by making a blog and concentrating on more SEO.

If you want to check your back links or inbound links on Google, use this syntax:
link:url
It shows other pages which links to that URL or website.

or you can use this tool:
http://www.iwebtool.com/backlink_checker

I would go with Link Diagnosis if you want to check out competitors but if you want an Idea of how many links you have go with yahoo site explorer.

Just to add that Link Diagnosis is great for competitor research as well.
