Hi,
I have a site that generates about half a million page views a month, but haven't shown any ads until now. What can I expect to earn per page view, and what kind of ads are most effective?
I think it will probably be one large (468 by 60 pixels) banner and some affiliate text links, but I am not sure.
Thank you,
John Meer

Hi John,
Welcome to TWF. You're asking a very generalised question. In todays adverting industry (online) what you receive may be 10 times higher (or lower) then what someone else receives. Not many people would be able to tell you what you'll be receiving. It very much depends on your site and its content. I wouldn't be expecting big numbers though. The advertising industry is going through a slump and has yet to pull through. The best thing for you to do would be to try a variety of CPC, CPA and CPM networks to see what works best for you
.
Thanks,
Ravi

Hi John,
You really should be concerned about the amount you get per 1000 impressions, not per impression. If you are just starting off, I say don't bother with making space for the standard 468x60 banners. Tower/skyscraper ads that run vertically along the side of content and text ads are the most effective and efficient right now.
Your type of site will determine your rates, as well as if you sell ads yourself or you get a company to for you. If you have a targeted, niche site with a strong audience, you can charge really high rates compared to the measily ones that are the norm today. If you run a more general, less-targeted site, rates should be lower.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for resonding Marc and Ravi. Besides asking the information for my own site, I am also just interested in what all kinds of sites are earning today. There is a lot of older info on the Web e.g. http://adres.internet.com/adrates/article/0,1401,,00.html
But are these rates still accurate?
I am especially interested in what smaller search engines/portals are making in average.
Thanks
