I have plans to do Article Marketing for one my sites. I mean submitting articles to ezine or articlebase and getting backlinks from them.

Is it useful? Will it really drive traffic?

Yes and no.

It's not a magic pill by any means, but done well, it can drive some additional traffic to your site.

My advice is to write several articles on specific subjects. Then in the signature/resources section of the article (different article sites have different names for it), link back to a specific page on your site that talks more about the topic, or has something for sale related, or whatever. Don't just link back to the front page of your site.

Also, be aware that many sites that use such articles may have a decent Google presence at first, but often they end up getting flagged by Google as duplicate content sites. They may get penalized eventually, or banned altogether.

For that reason alone, never put the same articles you've published to those other sites on your own sites. You don't want to risk getting your site penalized by Google.

That very thing happened to me, and I've yet to get that particular site back in Google again.

of course, but still it depends on the content

Can you submit one article to a few article directories, or will it be what is called "duplicatecontent"? And, one more, if not automatized, what's the general procedure of accepting artiocles? Are they run thru copyspace or something?

Google has its own algorythms to identify duplicate content. This is one of their big issues right now and they are known to be working hard at weeding it out. Really, when people do a search they don't want to see 10 versions of the exact same article. In fact, I've read that Google is working on diversifying SERPs so that readers get a variety of types of information when they do a search (i.e. news article, product review, blog post etc.). That's a little off-topic though.

They are also working on ways of identifying content that has been re-written from an original piece. So even if you take an article from your own site and change it around a bit Google may be able to identify it as duplicate content.

It is true that sometimes the article on the site you submitted to will get a decent amount of traffic and link value. You could also consider it a way of reaching out to other webmasters who might find your main site and link to other articles of yours.

It works. I've done it and it put my article second spot on Google's first page search results in a few days.

You need to have a pretty popular article for duplicate content to be an issue!

I say go for it. Content is in demand.

I think that if you were going to distribute content to other sites the best thing to do would be to submit articles to well known sites for your topic. So for me, I would try to get an article on A List Apart or Vitamin or a site like that (reaching higher! Ha!). You could also offer to be a guest blogger on a site in your topic. Of course, you need to be able to write good enough content in order for this to work.

If your content isn't that good, then the article distribution sites might be an option but not because you're going to get a ton of traffic and great backlinks from the sites that might re-post that article. The article sites themselves tend to be good resources with good link value and you might get some human traffic from that.

But then you have to ask yourself why you're not posting it on your own site ... if it's good content that would be worth linking to then you want those links to go to your own site, not some article distribution site.

It gives traffic because people today reads articles regarding the technology within the internet. Users may get traffic through reading the article and if they became interested, they would browse the source of the article by visiting the site.
