Hey,

I am a newbie when it comes to SEO. I was wondering if I could some expertise on this topic and I describe my efforts and endeavors on drawing more traffic.

I started my website approximately 2 months ago and currently it is PR2. I was pretty happy after noticing this PR change yet I never felt much of a difference in traffic.

Thus far,
1) I have a blog attached to my site, which I post 2x a week
2) I have about 14 articles which I have submitted to Ezinearticles, Goarticles, article-hut. Are there any other services you would recommend?
3) I have a link exchange system set up on my site
4) I have submitting my blog and url to various directories I come across
5) I have social bookmarked my posts....with Digg, Stumbleupon, etc.
6) I have used Meta tags (I am not sure if the tags are optimal)
7) I participate in forums

What else could I do to improve me site? I need traffic to promote my products which I have minimal sales. How do I capture more sales and traffic without PPC?

Thanks
Vilash:confused:

Firstly, don't worry about PR too much. It doesn't have a huge influence on rankings or traffic anymore. It's sort of like your age or your weight on a scale - just a number Wink

From your list:

  1. Good, but is the content link worthy? That's what you need. It's always good to have more content to be indexed.
  2. Submitting to sites like this isn't worth your time, IMO. See this thread for more on that. Better to write good quality unique content and submit it to high quality sites on your topic, or offer to be a guest blogger on a quality blog on your topic.
  3. Don't bother with this - those links will probably be discounted.
  4. Ummm.. okay if the directories are really valuable. Most aren't. More info here. (some people will still insist that directories are great but a lot were devalued in the latest PR update which makes it clear that Google doesn't think too highly of them).
  5. Good - but is your content good enough for people to help you boost it up? That's what you need on these sites. Read Copyblogger for good writing ideas.
  6. Good but not essential. Each page should have a unique description. Keywords are optional (search engines don't look at those too much).
  7. On topic forums? Probably good. Make sure you're really participating and not just spamming your links around.

For a site about vitamins you've got lots of competition. PPC would be a good way to get traffic. The other way would be to write some really good linkbait.

The content on your blog looks good - it may just be a matter of time before your site builds up traffic. Two months is not really that long.

I'm sorry fior the redundant nature of my post, but I'll repeat you, Megan, Content of the site should appeal to visitors and relavant site owners. And I would put it on the first place in your list.

no megan is right, minimum is about 4-6 months i hope you have google analytics installed so you can see your traffic, PPC is a really good way to build traffic as well, If you customers like your site, they will come back and possibly tell others!

PPC is a good way to get some more traffic, but be careful of your spending limit. Also, be sure that it is not deceiving. Sure, you may be generating traffic, but if the visitor feels it is not relevant to their search, it's wasted money. Relevant keywords and an attractive landing page with quality content will help your site prosper.

Given the competitive nature of the vitamin industry, some advertising outside of the web might be helpful. Creating some kind of buzz, good or bad, will drive traffic. Best of luck.

Do more link building that would favor you in your rankings for your keywords. Vary your anchor texts when building links - add other words to your major keyword so as to help you rank in long tail versions of your keyword. This is best for getting organic traffic form SE's Wink

Have quality and dynamic content on your site, don't have broken links on your website and also wisely use your meta tags.

Do a press release. This will get you thousands of visitors if done correctly. It will also help by getting high PR backlinks to your site and more search traffic. Just make sure it is newsworthy.

You should also start setting up a mini-network of social sites linking back to your website like Squidoo, Hub Pages and YouTube. These will give you more link power and give your website a higher page rank and traffic.

I think most of the great methods have been mentioned. I have 2 new sites and use link referral to gain a little traffic but I would also be interested in other ways to increase traffic.

PS. I'm working on better content, lol.

Seo and PR have their places, PPC are too expensive and are often clicked on by mistake. If you are looking for traffic and you want results now I can help you out.

PM me if you are interested.
