Hi!

I used PopUnder windows to promote websites.

The problem is that popunder windows become inefficient because 80% of the internet users use pop-up and popunder killers like GoobleBar and many-many others.

I am searching for new and efficient ways of promoting websites.

Thanks for your answer!

I've heard on the grapevine that one of the best ways to promote products is with text based ads, for instance put a review of a product/site then a link at the bottom saying "click here to visit/purchase".

In all honesty it depends on what your promoting. I doubt text ads would work well for adult type sites but a review would work really well for software games and books. Are you promoting other sites on your own site or are you trying to get promotion for your sites on sites owned by other people?

A good alternative would not to have one at all Sticking out tongue

Umm, what about setting a good name for yourself and let the word of mouth do the rest for you?

I own a banner exchange system. In reality members of the bx have to promote other members' site.

In that case the best thing you could really try is to create some kind of text based advertising system similar to google adwords. Pop ups/unders are really not going to be working for much longer because damn near everyone has a popup blocker nowadays.

On a different subject... Why do popup blocking software manufacturers advertise using pop up ads? Its nearly as bad as getting spam emails advertising "stop spam" Wink

Everybody thinks that 80% of the internet users use pop-up killers.
If it is true, then how can you explain that some of my members have 30% click trought rate on their banner. Take a look:

You do know that those numbers are measuring different things, right?

If, for the sake of argument, 80% of internet users use pop-up killers, that will affect banners that pop-up in a new window when I user doesn't click a link. It will not affect banners within the page, nor banners that are linked by text that people click.

That said, 80% of internet users are not necessarily visitors to that one site. There is all possibility that of the 20% of internet users not using a pop-up blocker, there are sufficient numbers of those people to visit that site and click on the banner.

i.e. if the exposure is 300 people a day, all 300 people could not have a pop-up blocker and still not click on the banner (or 100 of them could). That doesn't affect the millions of other users who won't see the banner at all because a) they aren't going to that site and b) they have blocked auto-pop-up windows. They still exist.

See what I'm saying?

Since pop ups and pop unders are rapidly not getting the conversions they used to. There are now ways to use re directed traffic that point to a particular domain. You can either buy this redirected traffic in bulk i.e. 10000 visits etc or create a redirected domain by purchasing expired domains and using them to increase traffic. This is a good targeted way to increase visits. We have customers using this service that report a 1% conversion on average. But as always your offers and sales copy will determine how many people will buy or use your services.

If you are going to use pop ups or pop unders I would suggest pop unders first. They are less offensive and do not interupt the browsers experience as much.

Another good service is a link exchange. I have used hits2u.com. It is a free service and doesnt require an exchange. Just refer people and continue your ads.

As stated before great search engine positioning and branding your name is the best way to get traffic and buying customers.
