I am looking for good methods to advertise a site that will be used only in a certain town. The site is used to buy and sell items locally, similiar to the classifieds and an auction online. Currently I have 279 users I was on the local ABC news for the site. However it hasnt picked up as fast as I hoped it would. I just started a contest to give away $50.00 to registered active users. This got me about 10 users in 24 hours. I am still hoping to get 50-100 users a day.
I need help with ideas, preferably cheap ideas to promote this site locally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

If the site you are refering to is your username, I'd definatly look into different ads. I went to that site, and at the bottom saw what I thought was links into your site, big blue letters, one said EXIT, one said ENTER. After clicking on the ENTER did I realize this was not a link for your site, but an ad on your site that took me to a site for a 19 year old's live web cam, wanting me to sign up...

Then trying to get back to your site popped up several windows with ads for other "adult" sites, including some with nude shots of women.

If I was just someone coming across the site, I wouldn't take it serious and would not sign up becasue of this, to be honest, I would have left the site before getting a true freel of what the site was. I would definatly get different advertising or contact who is feeding you ads to get rid of this type of ad.

PS. I sat there for a little while hitting reload to see if I would get the ad again, while I saw a few ads repeat, I never got the EXIT / ENTER ad again.

I never saw the ad for the porno type website come up. We were linked to a internet personals site. I think I may take that banner off the site if that type of content is comming up

The website I am referring to is

ritbay.com

I did several reloads (about 30) and never saw it again, makes me wonder if maybe someone slip in their adult site into the advertising system you use, which is why I let you know. none of the other ads seemed to be anything like that Wink

As for the local site, might want to see if any of the local papers have an online site that offer advertising, preferably on their classifieds pages. Another spot to look at advertising might be local chamber of comerce site and links from local community sites. Many people like me prefer to buy local, even from the internet.
