Hello fellow forum members, I am new to this forum community.

I have some questions regarding starting a new website business. I am planning on starting a business and serving people who are in need of web design services. Your help would be greatly appreciated:

1) Do I have to officially register my business somewhere or with the US government to legally declare that I am a business? Or can I just simply start my business on my own and provide services?

2) Am I required to take any legal action before starting my business?

3) What other requirements do I need to be aware of to start a legitimate business?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to start my business without having to do any legal stuff...just like a kid would start up his own lemonade stand without legal issues. See what I am saying? Wink

Thanks,
WebMember

Well it sounds like you want to freelance, I don't think you need to take any legal action though.

Contact your center of commerce (call your city for the information) and ask them. Thing is, most folks don't make enough $$ the first few years to worry about other issues, it's just self-employment and you can declare it on your taxes.

After a certain cap, you need to get licensed and pay taxes.

Thank you for your responses, it was of great help! Smiling

How do I go about and get licensed? What steps do I need to take? And what is the cap amount - how much profit is considered the maximum before I am required to get licensed?

Thank you again for your advice and I am looking forward to your response!
