Hello Webmaster forums,
I finally want to earn money from some of my creations, I want to start doing freelance web-design and have a fair idea of what I need but I just need confirmation since a lot of people here may have experience.
My first question is, what exactly would I be expected to do as a freelance web-designer?
How much would I be expected to charge?
And is there anything I need to know before jumping into it?
Help appreciated, thanks in advance.

just to clarify, are you doing this as a hobby, or profession?

Spend a lot of time looking for work, dealing with clients, working out project specifications, keeping up with your accounting etc. I think a lot of people go into this thinking they will be spending their days designing web pages which isn't the case. You have to have good people skills.
This depends on where you live, market demand, target clientele, quality of work etc. It's really impossible to give you an exact number, and we are not allowed to discuss specific prices on the forums.
That clients are a pain in the you-know-what sometimes
Well, maybe most of the time
Oh, and learn about specing and quoting projects, because it's really easy to try to underestimate the project and end up spending a lot of unpaid time doing work.

You can find plenty of projects to work on at websites that offer projects for freelancers like my website.
You can charge people on an hourly basis or if you can estimate the amount of time and effort that it would take you to do the job, you can quote a fixed price. It all depends on how long/hard you think the project will be.
Give it a try. Most of what you need to know will come with experience.
